PHALAENOPSIS (Orchidaceae)

Genus Phalaenopsis includes 44 species distributed from Asia to Australia. These orchids live on other plants (epiphytes) or in rock or ground fissures (chasmophytes). Many hybrids have been obtained for ornemental purpose.

The name Phalaenopsis comes from 2 Greek words, phalaina, a moth, and opsis, resembling: its flower looks like a moth.
