Flowering plants pollination (angiosperms)


In order to have an overview of the relationship between insects and flowering plants, the evolution of land plants, which culminated in the group of angiosperms (flowering plants), will be quickly summarised. The relationship between insects and plants can take as many forms as their relations are diverse and varied. But the transport of pollen by insects is the relationship most frequently shared by different taxa of flowering plants. Examples of pollination are studied in the Asteraceae, Fabaceae, Orchidaceae, and Moraceae (Ficus).

In Angiosperms, pollen has to germinate and to produce a tube to bring male gametes to the egg that is protected by the carpel.
